Capes Dunn have provided a complete Auction and Valuation service to Private and Professional clients since 1826.

Throughout the year we conduct fortnightly Interiors, Vintage & Modern Sales with in addition to approximately 30 Specialist Sales, please click on 'Auctions' for further details. Free inspection and guidance to clients is always available, and we can accept goods for our Specialist Sales up to one month before the date of sale. Our sales are advertised in National, Trade and Local publications as well as on the Internet.

Clients who have goods for Auction usually require pre-sale advice and valuations. This can be achieved by the following means:-

All items which are to be entered into sale, will be clearly listed on an Inventory with estimated prices and relevant sale dates, the client and Capes Dunn will retain copies of the Inventory. A vendor reference number is placed at the top right corner and should be quoted when any enquiries are made.

INSURANCE
All goods which are to be offered for sale will be insured against the risk of fire and burglary, also against loss on the view day, accidental breakage or damage. Whilst every care is taken, Capes Dunn cannot be held responsible for damage that might occur to picture frames.

CHARGES
The costs incurred in selling goods at Auction through Capes Dunn.
Our commission is 20% of the hammer price (inclusive of VAT).
Lots offered through our Interiors, Vintage & Modern Sales are subject to a £3 cataloguing fee per lot.
Lots entered in our Specialist Sales are subject to a £5 cataloguing fee per lot which includes photography and illustration on the Internet as part of our online catalogue. Lots illustrated on the Internet and in the printed catalogue, the latter decided upon at our discretion, incur a fee of £7 per lot.

Value Added Tax at the standard rate is charged on the amount of commission and lotting fees.
Please note that a lot can either be a single item or a group of items forming a lot.

The Auctioneer will exercise his/her discretion to sell within 10% of the reserve unless instructed to the contrary. The minimum reserve accepted is £50, below this all items will be sold on a 'without reserve' basis. Items which are offered with reserves which have been placed by the Vendor that exceed our advice, if unsold, will incur an offering fee of 2.5% of the reserve price.

The carriage of goods to the saleroom is the responsibility of the seller. The charge for the use of our fully insured van with two men is currently £40 + VAT per hour, with piano removal from £75 + VAT. The removal costs will be deducted from sale proceeds.

In respect of the Lytham Office, our resident valuer, whenever possible, will convey items Free of charge to the saleroom. The removal of larger items can be undertaken by our van, as per the terms described above.

PAYMENT
All proceeds from sales are paid via cheque approximately four weeks after the date of sale.
